Unique time signatures, atmospheric riffs, and song titles like “Atmosphere,” “Space Is,” and “Passenger,” indicate you’re about to be launched into a cosmic aerial of an auditory landscape the moment you cue up Portland, Maine’s Five of The Eyes excellent new LP The Venus Transit. Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. I know you all must be busy with the gearing up for the release of the upcoming LP.
1. Up until now you have only released two EPs, and those were independently released. What made you feel that the time was right to not only record a full album, but to also spend the money for professional producing and mastering?
None of us had ever made a pro LP before, so it was just something we wanted really badly to do. Also we made the decision in the middle of a pretty prolific writing period, so for the first time we felt like we had enough good material to put out a full-length.
With their debut LP The Venus Transit, progressive rock/post-hardcore quintet Five of the Eyes have put forth an ambitious, hard-hitting starting point. With a wide array of technical skills possessed by each musician and an unrelenting energy behind each track, Five of the Eyes have put together one of the more memorable progressive rock.... The band’s new album, The Venus Transit, showcases the different sounds Five of the Eyes brings to the table with powerful vocals, frenzied drumming, and powerful guitars. Produced and engineered by Jonathan Wyman and mastered by Grammy award winning engineer Adam Ayan, the album is set to be released this Friday, September 29th. However, today fans can get a first listen of the album on HuffPost.
If I had a criticism prepared for The Venus Transit, the first full-length by Five of the Eyes, it would have been that the band registered too studiously as disciples of The Mars Volta, that cultish, amazing, inscrutable El Paso band. "The album which was produced and engineered by Jonathan Wyman at The Halo Studio in Portland, ME musically picks-up where the band left off with their self-produced sophomore EP Hierophantasm. However with Wyman acting as both producer and engineer, the songs off The Venus Transit soar to stunning new heights, previously unachievable in the confines of the bands home studio.
